Are you this confused? If so, we can help!

So, you've joined the Pikmin Wiki, and you want to help it out. But, there's a problem! You don't know what needs to be done! You could ask an Administrator, but they're so big and scary that you don't want to! Luckily, there's the page known as "How Can I Help?", a page dedicated to what needs to made done, in a simple and easy-to-read fashion. And you, fellow editor, have stumbled upon that page.

Note: If you are looking for basic help on how to edit, click here. This page is about how to edit specifically on the Pikmin Wiki.

Fixing Stubs

A Stub is a page that has very little information. They can be identified by {{Stub}} located at the top of the page in the Source Editor. Fixing a Stub is relatively simple; here are some basic guidelines:

Images-3

Be just like this Yellow Pikmin and detonate a Bomb Rock on the Stub template if it doesn't need to be there!

  1. Add categories
  2. Add characters' notes
  3. Add strategies
  4. Add background information
  5. Add information in general

See all of the Stubs here!

Keep in mind that if a page has enough info, don't be afraid to remove the Stub template from the page!

Fixing Images

Updating Old Pictures

There are some pictures on the Wiki that are old, low quality, and need to be updated. Before you go and say "I can do that right now!", wait a second. We have a few rules and guidelines about how pictures are to be taken and formatted.

  1. Currently, the best place to get images is from the Nintendo Switch versions of each game.
  2. Assign descriptive text to the images' filenames, descriptions, and captions. If you are uploading a picture of a Wollyhop, name it 'Wollyhop_White', not 'dfniow4u5wjgfjg'. It's much easier to find when searching for images. In the case of multiple images of the same subject, name the duplicate 'Wollyhop_White_2'.
  3. If a current image is sufficient, it is unnecessary to replace it. If you believe that the image already works, don't upload another version. We don't need duplicate images on the Wiki.
  4. Upload images as preferrably PNG files. It's okay to have JPEG files, but PNG fits with the system of Fandom and is therefore better.
  5. Try taking pictures of creatures and objects where they are originally found. For example, take a picture of a Breadbug in its native habitat of The Forest Navel. For treasures in Pikmin 2, take a picture where they are found. If they are found underground, do the following:
  • First, fly your ship over the location of the cave where the treasure is found.
  • Then, access the Treasure Hoard.
  • Locate the treasure.
  • Zoom in on the treasure.
  • Take the picture once it is midday in the treasure screen. (i.e. there is no glare, and the area isn't dark.)

Follow these rules and everything will be fine! The above also can apply to enemies found only underground (i.e. Bumbling Snitchbugs, Pileated Snagrets).

Missing Images

Some pages may be lacking in or are missing images. The template {{Image}} will notify you of pages like this.

Adding images to these pages will be a great help! Find pages in need of them here!

Fixing Bloated Galleries

Some pages' Gallery sections are extremely big. If a page has more than three images in its Gallery section, do the following:

  1. Create a new page. Title it 'page'/Gallery, with the 'page' being the name of the page the Gallery is being made for.
  2. Copy the images from the original page into the Gallery page using the Source Editor. Make sure to copy in the <gallery> and </gallery> alongside the image files.
  3. In both pages, ensure that the Galleries are only created with <gallery> and </gallery>, rather than, for example, <gallery widths="140">.
  4. In the new Gallery page, type [[Category:Galleries]] at the bottom of the page in the Source Editor. Ensure that that is the only category on that page.
  5. In the new Gallery page, at the top, type "Gallery related to 'game in the series the topic is from (if it's from multiple, just link this to the Pikmin series)' 'topic of the Gallery'. Everything denoted in ' should be linked to its respective article, and the game should be italicized unless it's linked to the Pikmin series.
  6. In the original page, delete all but three images. These images can be of your choosing, but generally should be the most important ones. Also, if the topic is from three Pikmin games, for example, then maybe have each image be of a different rendition of the topic. In example, on the Onions page, considering that Pikmin 1 and 2 share an Onion style, there would be 3 images, one for 1 and 2's Onion style, one for 3's, and one for 4's.
  7. In the original page, type 'Main Article: 'page'/Gallery above the 3-image Gallery, showing people where to go if they want to access more images.

Fixing Information/Text

Another way to help the Wiki is to clean up information. You'll know something needs to be cleaned up by seeing the template generated by the code {{Clean}}. Using this code, you can also put that template onto an article in need of cleanup. Cleaning up an article includes the following:

  1. Changing how things are organized
  2. Adding/removing articles from categories
  3. Fixing spelling errors, grammar, and other flawed text

Remember that even little improvements help.

When To Remove The {{Clean}} Template From Articles

It can be tricky to know when an article no longer needs the aforementioned template. It's best to look at these things:

  1. Is all of the grammar perfect?
  2. Is everything organized as it should?
  3. Does the article have any bugs in the Source Editor?

Fixing Links

Links, in Wiki terms, are text highlighted in light blue, and when clicked, they redirect the user to a different page. There are several issues on the Wiki involving them.

Broken Links

Broken Links are denoted by red text, and their target page doesn't exist. If possible, please change the link to a new page, or scrap the link entirely. Many times, the attempted target name is misspelled, so check your spelling before completely changing something. As an example, this is a working link, and this is a broken link.

Redundant Links

There are several pages with duplicate links. For example, if there is a link once on a page, there shouldn't be another link that leads to the same place. Please clear all of these duplicates, except for when the duplicates are in infoboxes or certain bullet points. If the bullet points have normal text, make sure there aren't redundant links. However, anything else involving bullet points should be linked regardless of whether or not the text was linked earlier.

Fixing OSTs

It would be appreciated if we could get the official soundtracks for every Pikmin game and upload them onto the Wiki. If you find a soundtrack, create a new page titled 'Game OSTs' and put the soundtrack there. Also, notify an Administrator (or multiple) upon its creation so she can monitor and/or fix the page.

Fixing Pikmin 4 Information

Quite a few of our Pikmin 4 pages are either missing templates, pictures, or overall information. We need to gather as much information as we can and upload it. Please work hard on fixing this, and see Deeb1324354657 for exactly what to do to help.
