The Doomsday Apparatus is the heaviest and most valuable treasure in Pikmin 2. It is a blue, heavily rusted 1 kilogram training weight. It is found in the Wistful Wild, not too far from the landing site. Due to its weight, 100 Purple Pikmin are needed to be able to pick up this item; and even then, it takes at least a quarter of a day to carry back to the ship.
The best place to amass purples to reach 100 for the Doomsday Apparatus is the Subterranean Complex, as it has three Violet and two Queen Candypop Buds on sublevel 8, along with many eggs and a geyser. Another good place is Bulblax Kingdom, which also has 3 Violet Candypop buds and one Ivory.

- Since this is a one kilo weight and requires 1,000 Pikmin to carry, it is reasonable to assume that a Pikmin's normal carrying capacity is one gram, or ten grams for purple Pikmin, this is the only indication of the real-world power of Pikmin.
